Abstract:

Introduction: This study aimed, effect of platelet-rich PLASMA (PRP) on soft tissue healing after mandibular third molar surgery. Materials & Methods: In this semi-blinded clinical trial study, 30 selected patients requiring surgical extraction of soft tissue impacted mandibular third molar participated from cases referred to the Department of Surgery, Faculty of Dentistry, Isfahan Azad University 2017. Patients divided into both test and control groups. PRP was placed in the extracted socket of the test group, whereas the control group had no PRP. Arzhangian standard kit utilized for preparation of PRP. The outcome variables in this study were pain, swelling, inter incisal mouth opening, wound dehiscence, dry socket, bleeding, and tissue color. The collected data analyzed using statistical tests followed independent T-test, Mann-Whitney, and fisher (p value < 0. 05). Results: The mean postoperative pain score (Visual Analog Scale) lowered for the test group after several wound dehiscence on the third and seventh days after surgery which was statistically significant (p value < 0. 001). Although the mean bleeding time on the third day after surgery decreased in the test group, this difference was not statistically significant (p value = 0. 59). There were no statistically significant between both groups for The dry socket incidence on the seventh day and the mean of inter incisal mouth opening in the third and seventh days after surgery as well. Conclusion: The usage of topical PRP has beneficial advantages on soft tissue healing after mandibular third molar surgery. Unlike the control group, The PRP group provided reduced pain and better soft tissue healing.

Abstract:

Background: The cause of osteoporosis is multifactorial and many dietary factors are important in the prevention of this disease. Antioxidants as free radical scavengers may influence osteoporosis by reducing the effects of oxidative stress that may be associated with bone loss. Vitamin E is an important antioxidant that protects polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) in cell membranes from oxidation. There are only two studies regarding vitamin E PLASMA levels in subjects suffering from osteoporosis. The purpose of this study was to investigate the association between PLASMA vitamin E levels and bone mineral density (BMD) in Iranian patients. Methods: Subjects were consecutively recruited between May and September 2005 from among a total of approximately 1000 people referred for instrumental screening for osteoporosis to the Jami Clinic in Tehran. Inclusion criteria for the study group were: a femoral neck T-score of -1 or less, osteopenia, severe osteopenia and osteoporosis. A total of 137 subjects were enrolled. According to their femoral and spinal BMD scores, 54 persons were selected as a control group. The control group consisted of subjects with a femoral neck T-score and spine T-score of -1 or more. In selecting the case group, only the femoral BMD score was used. PLASMA vitamin E was measured, after extraction with methanol, by HPLC with UV detection at 280 nm. Methanol, deionized water and butanol (90:4:6) was used as a mobile phase with a C8 column. The flow rate was 1.0 ml. min-1 and the acetate ester of vitamin E was used as an internal standard. Results: The results show no significant difference in PLASMA vitamin E between the control and case groups, however linear regression analysis does reveal a significant difference between the T-score and PLASMA vitamin E. Conclusion: Deceleration Femoral bone Density during osteoporosis will be accelerated with Decrease of Vitamin E Antioxidant level.

Abstract:

Introduction: Selenium is an essential trace nutrient for humans and animals. It is required for normal testicular development and spermatogenesis. In the present experiment, correlations between seminal PLASMA glutathione peroxidase enzyme activity (as selenium status) and semen parameters were evaluated in 200 males.Materials and Methods: Semen analysis was performed according to WHO guidelines. A total of 200 males were subdivided into 5 groups as normospermic, oligospermic, asthenozospermic, azospermic and varicocele groups according to their spermograms. PLASMA seminal glutathione peroxidase enzyme activity was determined by Kit (Randox, Germany). Results: The results showed that glutathione peroxidase enzyme activity was higher in normospermic than oligospermic, asthenozospermic, azospermic and varicocele groups. Meanwhile, there were inverse significant correlations between glutathione peroxidase enzyme activity and PLASMA seminal fructose CONCENTRATION, white blood cell, tail defects of sperm, coiled tail sperms and short tail sperms. On the other hand, the present data showed that there are positive correlations between vitality, sperm count, motility and normal morphology. Conclusion: The present study indicated that measurement of glutathione peroxidase enzyme activity as selenium status could be a good marker for evaluating male infertility.

Abstract:

Background and purpose: Pregnancy may cause hypertension in normotensive women or aggrevate preexisting hypertention. The incidence of Preeclamsia is 5-10%, and is an important contributor to maternal and fetal mortality and morbidity. According to many predisposing factors in pathophysiology of preeclampsia, the role of lipid preoxides, is also important. In this study attempts are made to show the relationship between inceasing of PLASMA lipids and hypertension in pregnancy. Materials and Methods: This is a case-control study on pregnant women reffering to Sari Imam Khomeini Hospital, From Oct. 2003 to Oct. 2004. Case group include 100 preeclamptic pregnant women and for control group 100 normotensive pregnant women were recruired. (preeclamsia: BP>=140 /90 mmHg, or Proteinuria>+1 0r >=300mg/dL in urine 24 h ) . Total TG, cholestrol, HDL and LDL were measured by enzymatic methods. Statistical analysis were performed using T-Test and Pearson's method. Results: The most important results are as follows: The mean of TG in case group was 45 % more than that of the control group (P<0.001, sig). The mean of cholestrol level in case group was 15 % more than control group (P<0.01, sig). The mean of LDL in case group is 5 % more than that of the control group (NS). Conclusion: As the levels of PLASMA lipids in preeclamptic women were more than normotensive women; measuring of PLASMA lipids also can be a marker for predisposing to Preeclampsia.
